The Town Hall in Głogów traces its origins to the end of the 13th century, when a watchtower was built during the town’s foundation by Konrad I. Over the years, the structure underwent numerous expansions, and in 1349, a two-winged brick town hall was erected. However, it suffered damage in fires in 1420, 1433, and 1574. After the most devastating of these fires, the town hall was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, and its tower was crowned with a spire. The appearance of the building from this period was captured in the 18th century by the artist Friedrich Bernhard Werner. Between 1823 and 1835, the town hall underwent a comprehensive reconstruction according to the design of architect A. Soller, resulting in wings designed in different styles: Prussian classicism and Florentine. Interestingly, in the 19th century, the clock on the tower had an unusual hand configuration, which led to confusion among residents and visitors. It was later replaced by a clock from the Weiss factory, which won a gold medal at the 1873 Vienna Exhibition. In 1933, a swastika flag was hung on the town hall, and in 1945, the building was severely damaged during the battles for Głogów, leaving only fragments of the tower. Reconstruction of the town hall in the 1835 style began in 1984 and was completed in 2002, with the project costing 14 million złoty. The town hall tower, standing at 80.35 meters, is the tallest town hall tower in Silesia and the second tallest in Poland. It was reconstructed between 1994 and 1996 based on its 1720 appearance, and its observation terrace is located at a height of 47.07 meters. The eastern wing of the town hall preserves valuable Gothic-Renaissance interiors, including a room with a net vault. Additionally, local Radio Elka Głogów broadcasts from the tower, highlighting the town hall’s significance in the cultural life of the city.
