General Stanisław Maczek IV High School in Katowice

IV Liceum Uniwersyteckie Uniwersytetu Śląskiego im. gen. Stanisława Maczka w Katowicach boasts a rich history dating back to 1938, when it began its operations as a secondary school. The building, located at 54 Katowicka Street, was originally used as a military hospital during World War II and was repurposed for education after the war. The school underwent a series of reorganizations and gained the status of a high school (liceum) in 1948. Over the years, IV LO has become an important educational institution, achieving success in various fields, including sports and academics, with many students participating in subject olympiads. In 1998, the Student Sports Club "Maczek" was established, continuing the school's sports tradition by organizing various events and achieving success in sports competitions. The school places strong emphasis on cooperation with universities, allowing students to gain practical experience in various scientific fields. IV LO offers diverse class profiles, such as linguistic, biological-chemical, and architectural, enabling students to develop in areas that interest them. Over the years, the school has had several patrons and currently bears the name of General Stanisław Maczek. International cooperation, which began in the 1970s, gained momentum after 1989 when students started building relationships with peers from Western countries, positively impacting their education. IV LO is also known for the numerous achievements of its alumni, who have gained recognition in fields such as politics, architecture, and literature. The school also organizes an annual "Sports Day," and its academic success is reflected in the number of winners in subject olympiads.
