wikipedia
GKS Katowice is a Polish football club founded on November 5, 1963, as a result of a merger of several local teams. The club adopted gold, green, and black as its colors, and its crest reflects the symbolism of the city of Katowice. Throughout its history, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, GKS Katowice achieved its greatest successes, winning the Polish runner-up title four times, the Polish Cup three times, and the Polish Super Cup in 1991 and 1995. The club also secured top positions in league competitions and reached the round of 16 in European tournaments such as the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup. The history of GKS is deeply intertwined with Katowice's sporting culture, and the club has been home to many outstanding players, including one of its most important figures, Jan Furtok, who was named to the All-Time Golden Eleven. The fans have actively supported the team through challenging times, such as relegation to lower leagues and financial difficulties between 2000 and 2004. In 2014, to mark the club's 50th anniversary, the Coach of the Half-Century and the Golden Eleven were honored during celebrations. GKS collaborates with numerous local partners through its Business Club and maintains extensive operations across all organizational levels, from management to the coaching staff. Despite its fluctuating fortunes, the Katowice-based club remains a vital part of the local identity and sporting culture, preserving athletic traditions and actively engaging with the community.
