wikipedia
Gnaszyn-Kawodrza is a district of Częstochowa, composed of Lower Gnaszyn (Gnaszyn Dolny), Upper Gnaszyn (Gnaszyn Górny), and Lower Kawodrza (Kawodrza Dolna), located along the Stradomka River. It boasts a rich history dating back to the 14th century when Gnaszyn was a royal village. In 1382, the settlements were handed over to the Jasna Góra Monastery. By the 15th century, the area was home to ore mines, iron smelting forges, and mills. The 19th century brought economic development, though it was marred by devastation during the wars, followed by post-World War II reconstruction and industrial growth. Significant factories operated in Gnaszyn, such as the Gnaszyn Manufactory and the Gnaszyn Wallpaper Factory, which became symbols of the textile and paper industries in the region. Interestingly, the Gnaszyn Wallpaper Factory was the only one of its kind in Poland for many years. The district is also known for its sports activities; the football club Orkan Gnaszyn, established in 1949, reflects the local passion for sports. Gnaszyn-Kawodrza may also surprise architecture enthusiasts, as during the PRL era, various infrastructure facilities were built near the factories, including the "Włókniarz" cinema and kindergartens. The municipality of Lower Gnaszyn, amid the turmoil of the 20th century, transformed and adapted within larger administrative structures until it was finally incorporated into Częstochowa in 1977. The district is also home to the Roman Catholic Parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord and a Volunteer Fire Department, established in 1918, which plays a vital role in the community. Gnaszyn is a place where history, culture, and industry intertwine, and every step on its soil reveals another fascinating thread from its rich past.
