Gołkowice, also known as Golkowitz, is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Wodzisław County. It is the second largest settlement in the municipality of Godów. Covering an area of 946 hectares, Gołkowice has a population of 3,822 people. Its history dates back to 1229, when the village was first mentioned in papal documents. In 1278, the Duke of Opole-Racibórz, Władysław, confirmed the existence of a ducal manor in Gołkowice. Over the centuries, the village belonged to various administrative units, and its population has maintained strong ties to Polish culture throughout its history. In 1922, Gołkowice became part of the Second Polish Republic, and after World War II, its earlier sports traditions were revived. The local sports club, KS-27 Gołkowice, which has been active since 1927, operates in the village. Cultural activities in Gołkowice are organized by the Municipal Center of Culture, including dance and vocal groups. Architecturally, the Church of St. Anne, which holds monument status, is worth noting, as well as a historic granary that was relocated to Katowice. Gołkowice is also traversed by the international EuroVelo 4 cycling route and other tourist trails, making it an attractive destination for visitors.
