wikipedia
The Goethe Pavilion is a neoclassical garden pavilion located in the Forest Park in Głogów, built in 1910 according to the design of the city architect Wilhelm Wagner. Its form is inspired by ancient Greek temples, featuring a characteristic rotunda and dome, adorned with two Doric columns on the pediment. The pavilion was erected in the city park, created on the site of demolished fortress fortifications from the early 20th century. The interior of the structure originally featured a bust of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe by the sculptor Rauch, which was lost during the war. The pavilion underwent renovation in 1995, when a new likeness of Goethe, created by Roman Mordas, was installed. In 2006, the building was restored again, which included covering the dome with copper sheeting. Unfortunately, due to vandalism, the roof covering was removed. The pavilion not only serves an architectural function but also a cultural one, symbolizing Głogów's connection to German literature and attracting tourists and art enthusiasts. Its history spans turbulent times with varied fortunes, making it an interesting site for both residents and visitors.
