wikipedia
Goraj is an urban-rural commune in the Lublin Voivodeship, with its seat in the town of Goraj, which gained town rights on January 1, 2021. The commune was established on January 13, 1870, following the loss of town rights by Goraj, and its boundaries included both the town and several nearby villages. The commune has a turbulent history, undergoing various administrative changes, including periods of belonging to the Krasnystaw and Biłgoraj counties, and transformations from a rural to an urban-rural commune. During the interwar and post-war periods, numerous changes affected the commune's structure, including the merging and division of village clusters. After the administrative reform in 1954, the commune was abolished and then reinstated on January 1, 1973. The Goraj commune covers an area of 67.63 km², with agricultural and forest land dominating. It includes village administrations such as Abramów, Bononia, Gilów, Hosznia Abramowska, and others. An interesting fact is that the commune constitutes 4.03% of the area of Biłgoraj County, highlighting its local significance. Goraj is also a place with a rich cultural heritage, which may be of interest to those involved in the history and architecture of the region.
