wikipedia
Gostyń is a town in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, known for its rich architectural and cultural heritage. The Basilica on the Holy Mountain deserves special attention, with a history dating back to the 15th century. Modeled after the Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, the site became a pilgrimage destination due to its painting of the Mother of God with Child. The Church of St. Margaret, the oldest monument in Gostyń, represents the Late Gothic style and contains a valuable image of the Mother of God with Child as well as rich interior furnishings. The Church of the Holy Spirit, built between 1907 and 1909, initially served Protestants and was later adapted for use by the Roman Catholic parish after World War II. The Town Hall, which acquired its current form between 1910 and 1912, still serves as the seat of the City Office. Gostyń also features the remains of a knight's stronghold, which was once the seat of local noble families. The town also boasts a dynamic public utility system; public transport has been free of charge since 2014. In the cultural sphere, there are the State Music School, the "Pod Kopułą" Cinema, and a Museum with ethnographic and historical departments. Gostyń has a rich historical background; the first mention of the town dates back to 1275. During World War II, the town experienced tragic events related to the German occupation, including murders as part of Operation Tannenberg. An interesting fact is the development of an industrial zone being established south of the city center, and Gostyń is home to numerous sports clubs and cultural associations, reflecting the active social life of its residents. The town is partnered with six European municipalities, further highlighting its openness to international cooperation.
