wikipedia
Gowarzewo is a village located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the administrative district of Kleszczewo. Historically associated with the nobility, it was first mentioned in records dating back to 1387. Geographically, it lies on the Września Plain, approximately 14–15 kilometers east of Poznań, at an elevation of 87 meters above sea level. The village features compact farmstead-style architecture and experiences a temperate climate, with average January temperatures ranging from -1 °C to -5 °C, and summer temperatures between +17 °C and +19 °C. Gowarzewo is home to the Chapel of St. Stanislaus Kostka, housed within a manor, while a church dedicated to the same saint is currently under construction. The village also has two kindergartens and a volunteer fire department unit, with the local football field serving as a community hub. Historical records indicate that in the mid-15th century, the village was divided between the Gowarzewski and Komornicki families. Over the centuries, ownership changed multiple times, including periods associated with Jesuit activities. A notable historical episode occurred during World War II, when residents of Gowarzewo hid a Jewish girl—an act of courage that later inspired a documentary film. Among its social events, the annual "PRL Classic Car Meet" draws automotive enthusiasts from near and far. The village is well-connected, thanks to its proximity to the A2 motorway and the S5 expressway. Public transportation is integrated with Poznań’s network, providing convenient bus links. Gowarzewo also participates actively in political life through its local electoral commission. The legacy of the Greater Poland Uprising remains deeply rooted in local identity, exemplified by figures such as Władysław Orczykowski—a native of Gowarzewo decorated with the Virtuti Militari. With its rich history, distinctive architecture, and engaged community, Gowarzewo remains a place where tradition and history continue to thrive.
