wikipedia
Gryżyna is a village in Poland, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, with a rich history dating back to at least the end of the 13th century. The first records of the settlement date back to 1296, in royal documents, highlighting its importance in medieval Greater Poland. Gryżyna was also the noble seat of the Gryżyński family and later the Gostyński family. The village became known for numerous border disputes with the Benedictines of Lubiń, as documented by a series of legal acts from the 14th and 15th centuries. In the Middle Ages, it also stood out culturally, with the presence of notable figures such as knights and judges. Architecturally, the ruins of two churches of St. Martin, dating back to the 13th century, and the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Barbara, built between 1885 and 1886 and funded by the von Lossow family, are noteworthy. Additionally, a Baroque manor house from the late 18th century has been preserved, featuring interesting architectural details such as coats of arms on the front gable. An interesting local legend tells of the Gryżyna birch tree, which grew near the ruins of the St. Martin church until 1875. Gryżyna, as part of the region's rich history, reflects historical shifts, having passed through various administrative phases, including the Prussian period after the Second Partition of Poland. Today, it remains a place of great cultural and historical significance, enchanting visitors with its architectural monuments and the beauty of the surrounding nature.
