Guido Mine

Hostel Guido is a modern accommodation and conference facility located near the inactive Guido Mine in Zabrze. It offers 85 sleeping spaces in a variety of rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. The Guido Mine, founded in 1855 by Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck, has a rich mining history linked to the search for coking coal in what is now Zabrze. The site underwent numerous operational changes, including gradual modernizations and transformations, until it was repurposed in 2007 into the Historic Guido Mine, part of the Coal Mining Museum. It offers tours of underground workings, featuring some of the oldest hoisting machines and attractions such as rides on an suspended electric railway, making it a fascinating destination from both a tourist and cultural perspective. Also noteworthy is the underground pub, where visitors can spend time in a unique atmosphere. Cultural events take place during various themed tours, which provide historical and educational experiences showcasing the region's rich mining traditions. Architecturally, the Guido Mine impresses with preserved industrial elements and spaces adapted to modern exhibition and entertainment needs, such as the K8 zone, situated 320 meters below ground. With a history dating back to the 19th century, the mine is not only a witness to the economic transformations of the region but also an important landmark on the cultural map of Silesia, attracting tourists from around the world.
