The General Józef Haller Housing Estate in Stargard is a military-style residential complex built in the 1970s for soldiers and their families. Originally named after General Aleksander Zawadzki, it was developed in close proximity to military units such as the 9th Mechanized Regiment and the 6th Armored Cavalry Brigade. The estate consists of 17 residential buildings and a military dormitory, primarily constructed from prefabricated concrete panels. The architecture is dominated by five- and four-story blocks, and the infrastructure includes local roads and garages.
Until the 1990s, the estate was managed by the Military Housing Agency, after which it transitioned into a residential community. Numerous services once operated within the area, including military casinos, shops, and cafés. The estate benefits from convenient access to public transportation due to its location near Soldier Avenue (Aleja Żołnierza), with bus routes connecting it to central parts of Stargard.
Resident communities actively maintain the estate’s green spaces, efforts that have been recognized in urban landscaping competitions. Interestingly, the estate once had its own military administration and hosted various institutions such as military kindergartens and clubs. Contemporary issues include disputes over garage ownership and the management of common areas, leading to occasional conflicts among residents.
Despite these challenges, the Haller Estate remains a significant location with a rich history and vibrant social life.
