Hansk

Hańsk is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, in Włodawa County, with its administrative seat in the village of Hańsk Pierwszy. From 1975 to 1998, the municipality belonged to the Chełm Voivodeship. It covers an area of 179.43 km² and is home to approximately 3,780 people, with a slight majority of men. The land use structure of the municipality consists of 52% agricultural land and 37% forested areas. The area is home to several nature reserves, including Żółwiowe Błota, which protects the breeding grounds of the European pond turtle as well as rare species of plants and animals, and Małoziemce, a nesting site for grey herons. Another interesting feature of the municipality's natural conservation efforts is the Podlaski peat bog, a proposed ecological site. Hańsk shares the IBA (Important Bird Area) Bagno Bubnów with neighboring municipalities. The municipality is not only a place of natural conservation but also boasts a rich history and culture, blending local traditions. The largest villages in terms of population are Hańsk Pierwszy and Dubeczno, which significantly influence local community life. The municipality includes several administrative villages, such as Hańsk-Kolonia, Kulczyn, Rudka Łowiecka, and Szcześniki, as well as smaller settlements like Wojciechów and Krychów. Hańsk has established partnerships with municipalities in the Netherlands and Germany, fostering cultural exchange and linking history with contemporary development. Another notable feature is its unique demographic aspect, such as a low feminization ratio of 97.80.
