Hotel Eden in Sopot

Hotel Eden in Sopot, built around 1910, was originally located at the then Südbadstraße, now 4-6 Kordeckiego Street. The building was designed by Wilhelm Lippke and adapted into a hotel in 1912, offering 50 sleeping accommodations. In 1919, it was acquired by Józef Draheim, a Polish entrepreneur who directed its services toward the Polish aristocracy, making the hotel a center for their gatherings. The dining room featured a piano played by the renowned composer Ignacy Paderewski. During World War II, the hotel was used as a German military hospital (lazaret), and after the war, it was repurposed as a holiday home for the Ministry of Public Security and subsequent government institutions. In 1992, the building was returned to the Draheim family, who resumed hotel operations, transforming it into the Eden Guesthouse. In 2016, Hotel Eden received the Prof. Wiktor Zin Award in the Modernization of the Year competition, underscoring its significance in the preservation of material heritage. Thus, Hotel Eden boasts a rich history intertwined with architecture, culture, and service to Polish society.
