Icon Museum in Warsaw

The Icon Museum in Warsaw, opened in 2011 in the Ochota district, is located in a former boiler room at 5 Lelechowska Street. It is a branch of the Museum of the Warsaw Orthodox Metropolitanate and was established on the initiative of Archbishop Sawa and Michał Bogucki. It is the first institution of its kind in Warsaw and the third in Poland, after those in Sanok and Supraśl. The opening ceremony, which took place on November 29, 2011, was preceded by a moleben (prayer service) led by Mitred Archpriest Dr. Henryk Paprocki. The museum consists of two parts: the first is an Orthodox chapel, which houses icons by Grzegorz Zinkiewicz, icons from the Iconographic Studio in Bielsk Podlaski, reproductions of frescoes by Jerzy Nowosielski, and stained-glass window designs by Adam Stalony-Dobrzański. The second part presents church designs by Jerzy Uścinowicz and original stained-glass works by Stalony-Dobrzański. Between 2012 and 2015, the Icon Academy operated alongside the museum, conducting educational activities related to Orthodox culture and art. The museum not only attracts art enthusiasts but also serves as an important center for Orthodox culture and spirituality in Poland, making it a significant point of interest on Warsaw's cultural map.
