Józefów nad Wisłą is an urban-rural commune in the Lublin Voivodeship, located in the Opole County. Its history dates back to the times of the Kingdom of Poland, when the commune was part of the Nowoaleksandryjski County in the Lublin Governorate. In 1870, Józefów, which had lost its town rights, was incorporated into the commune, and in 1888, the unit was renamed Rybitwy. The seat of the commune is the town of Józefów nad Wisłą, and according to data from 2005, it is inhabited by 7,369 people. The commune's area of 141.56 km² consists mainly of agricultural land (68%) and forests (22%). The commune occupies 17.60% of the county's area. It is worth mentioning the diverse structure of its villages, such as Basonia, Boiska-Kolonia, Dębniak, or Nieszawa, which reflect the region's rich cultural heritage. In 2014, the age pyramid of the inhabitants was registered, showing the demographic dynamics of the commune. It borders communes such as Annopol, Dzierzkowice, and Solec nad Wisłą, which fosters cultural exchange and local cooperation. Józefów nad Wisłą is an example of a commune that combines historical heritage with modern social life, being a place of rich tradition.
