Jan of Głogów’s Bench in Głogów is a monument dedicated to the medieval scholar, Nicolaus Copernicus. Unveiled in 2007, it is located on Aleja Wolności, near the square named after him. The monument takes the form of a modern memorial bench, in line with contemporary trends in spatial art. It was made from polymer resins, but the material proved to be non-durable, resulting in numerous cracks and signs of vandalism that were already visible in 2014. The figure of Jan sits at the left end of the bench, and on his thigh, there is an inscription commemorating the 500th anniversary of the scholar’s death, highlighting his achievements as an astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, and teacher of Copernicus. The monument is not only an interesting element of small architecture but also a testament to the local culture and history of Głogów, honoring an important figure who influenced the development of science in Poland. An added value is its social aspect, as the bench becomes a meeting place for residents and tourists, fostering interaction with the history and culture of the region.
