wikipedia
Located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Janikowo is a city with a rich history and a diverse cultural and industrial profile. The first records of the settlement date back to 1472, and the name Janikowo is derived from the diminutive form of the name Jan (John). Situated at the border of Kuyavia, Greater Poland, and Pałuki, the city serves as a meeting point of various cultures. Janikowo is known for its furniture and chemical industries, with Janikowo Soda Plants being a key employer. The city developed thanks to its proximity to Lake Pakoskie and the Noteć River, which provided favorable conditions for living and working. Architectural highlights include the Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist, built in 1460, and the modernist Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, constructed in the 1970s. Janikowo is a cultural hub, home to a choir, a theater group, and the International Center for the Promotion of Dialogue. Annual events such as Janikowo Days, Chemist’s Day, and the traditional "Kuyavian Goat" custom are organized here. The surrounding nature, including forest complexes and recreational areas, invites active leisure. The lake offers a beach, water equipment rentals, and cruises on the ship "Janek." Granted town rights in 1962, Janikowo has successfully developed and adapted to the contemporary needs of its residents despite historical challenges such as the partitions of Poland, World War II, and political transformations. Monuments honoring the Greater Poland insurgents and the victims of World War II highlight the city’s remembrance of its difficult past.
