wikipedia
The Jastarnia Resistance Point is a complex of fortifications planned as part of the Hel Fortified Area, established in 1936, to secure the peninsula from the land side. In 1939, construction began on the resistance point in Jastarnia, consisting mainly of concrete bunkers. Although the fortifications were ready for defense at the outbreak of the war, they were not fully equipped. While the area was not attacked during the Defense of the Coast, the bunkers were maintained by the Germans, who used them as air-raid shelters and observation posts. After the war, until the late 1970s, the bunkers were still considered in defense plans. Finally, in 1999, the Jastarnia Resistance Point was declared a historical monument, and conservation work began in 2000. The complex included four main bunkers: Saragossa, Sęp, Sabała, and Sokół, with solid construction featuring wall thicknesses ranging from 100 to 330 cm and armament including heavy machine guns. These bunkers were appropriately equipped with crew quarters and ventilation systems, and some had the capability to defend against chemical weapons. Light bunkers, intended as the second line of defense, were less durable but still resistant to attacks. After 2005, the site gained new life with the establishment of the Rear Admiral Włodzimierz Steyer Museum of Fortifications of the Second Polish Republic. As part of this project, the bunkers were restored, and an educational path was created around them. Various anti-tank obstacles and field fortifications were also recreated. The museum bunker "Sabała" is available in the open-air museum, where exhibits can be viewed interactively. The Jastarnia Resistance Point captivates visitors not only through its architectural merits but also through its rich history, as well as intriguing facts related to its operation and role in the defense system of the Second Polish Republic.
