wikipedia
Jaśkowice is a village in Poland located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Kraków County, in the municipality of Skawina. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when it was first mentioned in 1274, most likely as a possession of the Radwanici family. Over time, the village changed hands among various owners, including the Gaweł, Sadek, and Jaszek families of the Topór coat of arms. In the 18th century, following the Austrian partitions, Jaśkowice became part of Austria, which influenced its development. In the 19th century, the village was transformed by Dr. Antoni Zubrzycki, who established a health resort based on a discovered sulfur-iron spring. Despite initial success, the spa began to decline in 1912 due to unfavorable terrain conditions. The village's architecture includes not only the manor and spa buildings but also a parish church, which was established in 2006. Jaśkowice is also known for archaeological discoveries; surveys have revealed 27 archaeological sites, confirming settlement dating back to the Neolithic era. Local culture has been enriched by the activities of the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP), founded around 1898, as well as educational traditions. A school was opened in Jaśkowice in 1906. Despite its small population (1,096 residents in 2021), the village plays an important role in the region, preserving numerous traditions and historical traces of the past.
