The municipality of Joniec, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, in Płońsk County, has a rich history dating back to 1973, when it was established in the Warsaw Voivodeship. Over the years, the municipality was abolished and re-established several times; between 1976 and 1982, its territory was incorporated into other municipalities, and it was restored with a smaller area in 1982. The municipality features a diverse land structure, dominated by agricultural land, which accounts for 74% of its area, while forests cover 19%. The municipal seat is located in the village of Joniec, which is one of the larger rural administrative units, along with others such as Józefowo, Krajęczyn, Omięciny, and Sobieski. Joniec is surrounded by neighboring municipalities: Nasielsk, Nowe Miasto, Płońsk, Sochocin, Zakroczym, and Załuski, which influences its development and population – in 2004, the municipality had 2,620 inhabitants. Notable are the architectural elements present in the municipality, such as traditional peasant houses, which reflect the local culture and history. A number of rural communities foster the preservation of local traditions, making Joniec an interesting place for both tourism and ethnographic research. An intriguing aspect is the evolving administrative structure of the municipality, and despite its small area, it remains an important location on the map of the Masovian Voivodeship, contributing to the development of the local community and economy.
