wikipedia
The Juliusz Słowacki University First High School in Chorzów has a rich history dating back to 1867, when the first school was established in Królewska Huta. It went through various stages, including nationalization, as well as name changes, starting as the Odrowążów Gymnasium. A significant moment was the closure of the school after the city was occupied by the Germans in 1939 and its reopening in 1945. In the 1940s, it was transformed into a Men's General Education School, and in 1958 it was named after Juliusz Słowacki. In 2007, the Academic General Education School Complex was established, and in 2016 the school was given its current name. Architecturally, the building was designed in the modernist style, inspired by Bauhaus, and it opened in 1932. Despite the passage of time, it still impresses with its modernity and well-thought-out functionality. Inside, there were modern laboratories, as well as an auditorium and a gymnasium. The school introduced its own system of specializations in teaching, which brought excellent results in the final exams. Students can choose from about 100 specialization blocks, and they also learn foreign languages, including English, French, German, and Spanish. Thanks to the patronage of the University of Silesia, students have access to academic lectures, and programs such as Cambridge enable them to obtain international language certificates. The high school regularly ranks high in national school rankings, confirming its high educational quality. The school places great emphasis on extracurricular activities, organizing numerous scientific and sightseeing trips, cooperating with educational institutions abroad, and constantly inspiring students' passions. In 1995, the Association of Friends of Słowak was established, which supports young people in developing their interests. Among the famous alumni of the high school are Jacek Bednarz, Jerzy Buzek, and Barbara Fedyszak-Radziejowska, which testifies to the school's achievements and its importance in the cultural and scientific landscape of Poland.
