Kępno is an urban-rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within Kępno County, with its capital in the town of Kępno. The municipality, which until 1954 functioned as the town of Kępno and the rural commune of Kępno-Północ, has a rich history and a diverse demographic structure. As of the end of 2019, it was home to 24,482 residents. The municipality covers an area of 124.03 km², of which 75% is agricultural land and 14% is forested. It constitutes 20.39% of the total area of Kępno County. Administratively, the municipality was part of the Kalisz Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998. Kępno is surrounded by neighboring municipalities such as Baranów, Bralin, Doruchów, Kobyla Góra, Ostrzeszów, and Wieruszów. The municipality includes numerous villages, among them Borek Mielęcki, Domanin, Hanulin, Kierzenko, and Szklarka Mielęcka. Kępno is also a place of architectural significance, with historical buildings that reflect local traditions and culture. It is also worth mentioning distinctive localities in the region, such as Biały Młyn and Mianowice.
