Kłomnice

Kłomnice is a rural municipality located in the northeastern part of the Silesian Voivodeship, within Częstochowa County. Historical sources indicate that the settlement was established in the 13th century as the seat of the Kłomnicki family. The name of the municipality derives from the word "kłomia," meaning a fishing net, which refers to the local economy tied to the Warta and Wiercica rivers. The Catholic parish in Kłomnice has existed since 1404, attesting to the area's long-standing significance. A period of intensive development began after the construction of the Warsaw-Vienna Railway in 1846, which attracted residents and economic activity. In the 19th century, Kłomnice was home to factories, sawmills, and a post office. The municipality has an agricultural character, with a large share of farmland and forests, and has developed infrastructure, including small hydroelectric plants. Kłomnice comprises many villages, including two named Michałów, which historically swapped names, leading to confusion. Local culture is reflected in the activities of groups such as the Folk Song and Dance Ensemble "Kłomnickie Płomyczki" and the Ritual Group "Grusza," which preserves folk customs and traditions. Despite destruction during World War II, the municipality successfully rebuilt its economy, and contemporary cultural and socio-economic life is vibrant. Around 550 private businesses are registered in the municipality. Kłomnice boasts five sites listed in the register of historical monuments, highlighting its rich architectural history. An interesting fact is the renaming of the two Michałów villages in 2018, which resolved long-standing identification issues.
