Kalinowo is a rural commune in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with its administrative seat located in the village of Kalinowo. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune belonged to the Suwałki Voivodeship. The area of the commune occupies the southeastern part of the Ełk Lakeland, bordering the communes of Wieliczki, Raczki, Augustów, Bargłów Kościelny, Rajgród, Prostki, Ełk, and Olecko. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had 7,047 inhabitants, but by December 31, 2019, this number had decreased to 6,660. The commune covers an area of 285.17 km², of which 68% is agricultural land and 18% is forested. The Kalinowo Commune is an area with a rich natural structure, dominated by agricultural and forested areas, including numerous lakes and rivers, creating excellent conditions for recreation and tourism. The commune is also a valued destination for fishing enthusiasts and forest hikers. It comprises many villages, such as Borzymy, Czyńcze, Dudki, Kalinowo, and Wierzbowo, as well as several smaller settlements. Kalinowo has a rich history dating back to pre-war times.
