Kalinowszczyzna

Kalinowszczyzna, formerly known as Lwowskie Przedmieście (Lviv Suburb), is a residential district of Lublin, located in the northeastern part of the city. The history of this area dates back to the first half of the 18th century, when it developed as a settlement along the Lviv route. Until the end of the 18th century, Kalinowszczyzna was home to noble and ecclesiastical jurisdictions, and in the early 19th century, it functioned as an independent town, gaining importance due to its proximity to Lviv. Key landmarks included the Hay Market (Słomiany Rynek) and the local Jewish community, as well as Franciscan and Augustinian monasteries. In the 19th century, Kalinowszczyzna transformed into a working-class and commercial district, with the establishment of tanneries, a mill, and a cloth factory, while wooden structures gave way to small-town architecture. In the 1970s, a housing estate and a mini football stadium were built in the ravine area, intended for the local team MKS "Kalina" Lublin. Housing estates such as XXX-lecia, Niepodległości, 40-lecia, and Kolejarz form a distinctive built environment, carefully integrated into the natural landscape. Kalinowszczyzna not only reflects Lublin's rich history but also presents interesting examples of architecture blending with its charming surroundings. The district's boundaries were defined in 2009, and it covers an area of 2.75 km². As of June 30, 2018, it had 22,451 registered residents. With its rich tradition and artistic and social heritage, Kalinowszczyzna stands as a significant part of the local culture.
