wikipedia
The Kaliska Commune, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, lies on the edge of the Tuchola Forest and has its administrative seat in the town of Kaliska. The history of this region dates back to ancient times, with modern settlement beginning to take shape in the Middle Ages when these lands came under the rule of the Teutonic Knights. After World War II, in 1947, the Kaliska Commune was formally established from villages that previously belonged to the Piece Commune. The commune covers an area of 110.36 km², dominated by forest land (70%) and agricultural land (22%). The area is rich in architectural heritage, including historic churches from the early 20th century and traditional Kociewie cottages from the late 19th century. Kaliska is home to the Municipal Cultural Center, which offers a rich cultural program, including theater, a choir, and various sports sections. Sports, especially football, play a significant role in the life of the commune, thanks to the Victoria Kaliska club, which has been active since 1953. The region features various tourist trails, including the Izydor Gulgowski Trail and the Kociewie Trail, highlighting the area's tourism potential. Kaliska is also a region with rich flora and fauna, featuring pine forests and diverse water bodies that create a picturesque landscape. The Wda River is home to various fish species, while the surrounding forests are inhabited by wild boars, roe deer, and red deer. The commune has a partnership with the German municipality of Reinfeld in Holstein, fostering cultural and social cooperation. An interesting fact is that Kaliska Commune has a Memorial Room dedicated to Izydor Gulgowski, an ethnographer and creator of the open-air museum in Wdzydze Kiszewskie, underscoring its cultural and historical significance. Kaliska combines rich history, natural beauty, and cultural activity, making it an attractive place to live and visit.
