wikipedia
Karczmiska is a rural municipality in the Lublin Voivodeship, located in Opole County, with its administrative seat in Karczmiska Pierwsze. The history of the locality dates back to the 12th century when Casimir the Just granted it to the Norbertine nuns. Over the centuries, the municipality was owned by numerous noble families, including the Ostrowskis, Firlejs, Lubomirskis, Radziwiłłs, Sanguszkos, and Sapiehas, although none of these families had a residence here. However, there was a manor farm inhabited by tenant farmers from the middle nobility. After the partitions of Poland, in 1819, the estate passed into the hands of Princess Anna née Sapieha Sanguszkowa, and later to Prince Adam Czartoryski, whose properties were confiscated after the November Uprising. In the second half of the 19th century, peasant protests for land rights took place, and after World War II, the estate was parceled out. The municipality covers an area of 95.21 km², of which 72% is agricultural land and 22% is forested. The municipality consists of numerous village districts (sołectwa), such as Bielsko, Chodlik, and Głusko Duże, as well as localities without village district status, like Głusko Małe. It borders Kazimierz Dolny, Łaziska, Opole Lubelskie, Poniatowa, Wąwolnica, and Wilków. An interesting fact is that the municipality was the site of peasant uprisings fighting for their rights, highlighting its complex socio-economic history. In 2004, the municipality had 6,272 inhabitants, and the current age pyramid of its residents indicates a diverse demographic structure. Karczmiska is a place that combines a rich historical heritage with the traditions of rural life and architectural diversity.
