Kielce Main

Kielce Główne is a key railway station in Kielce, located in the city center. Its modern station building, put into service in 1971, was designed in the modernist style by Jerzy Bortkiewicz. The station plays an important communication role, connecting Kielce with Warsaw, Kraków, and Częstochowa, and underwent a significant modernization between 2022 and 2023 aimed at increasing functionality and accessibility. As part of the renovation, the commercial and service space was expanded, elevators were installed to access the tunnel, and the building's facade was refurbished. The square in front of the station, named Independence Square (Plac Niepodległości), serves as the starting point for the city's tourist trail and features the Independence Monument. The station has a rich history dating back to 1885, when it was opened along with the Iwangorodzko-Dąbrowska Railway Line. Due to destruction during World War I and World War II, the building was rebuilt several times, which influenced its architecture. In 2023, the station was renamed "Kielce Główne," highlighting its importance in the region. It is worth mentioning that in front of the station building, there is a former footbridge over the tracks and a plaque commemorating the entry of Piłsudski’s Riflemen in 1995, reflecting the cultural and historical significance of this place. The modernized station and its surroundings form an important hub for urban transport, where main bus lines intersect, and it also serves as a transfer point. The interior of the station features a modern, functional design and a spacious hall, providing a fresh and comfortable environment for travelers.
