Klimontów is a village in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Proszowice County, with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The village is home to the Św. Jadwigi Królowej Primary School, which also boasts a long tradition, tracing its origins to the 19th century when the new owner, Dziedzicki, decided to build a new school in 1885. The village is situated in the valley of the Klimontówka River, surrounded by fertile soils that have favored settlement over the centuries.
Historical landmarks in Klimontów include a manor complex and a wooden manor house from the early 20th century, designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz, a renowned architect of that era. Other notable monuments include the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, and various crosses from the 19th and 20th centuries. Klimontów also held spiritual significance, having once been the property of the Benedictine Abbey in Staniątki.
Today, the village is home to several community organizations, such as LKS Agricola Klimontów and the Volunteer Fire Department. An interesting historical tidbit is the existence of underground tunnels that may have connected Klimontów to Queen Bona’s Castle, as well as the fact that King Władysław Jagiełło reportedly bred his warhorse here before setting off for the Battle of Grunwald.
Thanks to the development of the provincial road No. 776, Klimontów is gaining increasing importance for industry and services. The village currently has around 1,145 residents and features well-developed infrastructure, including a health center, a fire station, and a sports field.
