Kolbudy

The Kolbudy Municipality, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship within the Gdańsk County, is part of the Tricity metropolitan area and is characterized by its rich natural environment and dynamic demographic growth. The municipality comprises 15 village districts, including Kolbudy, Kowale, Otomin, and Lublewo Gdańskie, with its administrative seat in Kolbudy. The area features a morainic upland with river valleys and forests covering 34% of its territory, which, combined with its diverse flora and fauna, makes it an attractive tourist region. The municipality is home to two nature reserves and Natura 2000 protected areas. It also contains valuable Quaternary geological formations. The history of Kolbudy dates back to the pre-war period when the area was divided between the Gdańsk and Kartuzy counties. After Poland regained independence in 1920, the region became part of the Free City of Gdańsk. Following World War II, the municipality was incorporated into the Gdańsk Voivodeship. The demographic boom, particularly in river valleys, driven by its proximity to Gdańsk, has attracted many new residents, resulting in a 5% population increase between 2017 and 2021. Architecturally, the municipality boasts historical buildings, including churches that serve as important cultural landmarks. Notable sites include the manor and park complex in Bielkowo and the parish churches in Lublewo, Pręgowo, and Czapielsk. The municipality also offers a variety of cultural attractions, such as the ReFermata festival and activities at the "Dom Kultury" (Community Center). Sports play a significant role in the local community, with numerous sports clubs, including the Kolbudy Municipal Sports Association and the Kowale Municipal Sports Club. An interesting fact is that the Kolbudy Municipality is home to a disused railway line, which now serves as a tourist attraction for handcar rides. The area benefits from well-developed road infrastructure, including National Road No. 6 and Provincial Road No. 221, facilitating easy access to the Tricity. The municipality successfully combines dynamic development with a commitment to environmental protection and natural values, making it a unique place in the region.
