The current commune was formed from the former Komarów Commune, and its administrative seat is the town of Komarów-Osada. According to data from December 31, 2009, the commune had a population of 5,432. Geographically, the commune covers an area of 122.79 km², of which 87% is agricultural land and 7% is forested, highlighting its agricultural character and natural assets. The commune constitutes 6.56% of the area of Zamość County. Within the commune, there are numerous villages, such as Antoniówka, Dub, Huta Komarowska, Krzywystok, and Zubowice, which may have local traditions, distinctive architecture, and unique cultural features.
