wikipedia
Konopnica is a village in the Lublin Voivodeship, bordering the city of Lublin, with a rich history spanning over 660 years. Its name derives from the hemp plants that once grew in the area. In 1342, the village was mentioned in royal documents and granted royal status. Architecturally, it is distinguished by the eclectic Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Catherine, built between 1904 and 1905, as well as a belfry from 1781 and the ruins of a 17th-century old church. During World War II, the village witnessed tragic events, including brutal German crimes. After the war, Konopnica continued to develop, gaining new facilities such as the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Primary School and the Municipal Public Library. An interesting fact is that in the local forest, the site of mass graves from the occupation period can still be found today. Konopnica is associated with many individuals who contributed to its development, including Father Jan Kureczka, who served as parish priest for 33 years, and agronomist Tadeusz Kowalski. Today, the village combines suburban features with an agricultural landscape, and sports and culture remain vibrant elements of the local community, forming an integral part of its identity.
