wikipedia
Końskowola is a settlement located in the Lublin Voivodeship, in the Puławy County, known for its rich history and numerous monuments. It was established as a village, obtaining town rights in 1532, and currently functions as a village within the Końskowola municipality. The settlement is situated on the Lubartów Upland, in close proximity to Puławy and Lublin, on the Kurówka River. Its name derives from the nearby village of Wola Witowska. Końskowola was a significant agricultural and industrial center, especially during the rule of the Czartoryski family. In the 19th century, it became an important textile hub due to connections with the Russian industry. The town lost its municipal rights in 1870 as a result of an administrative reform, which was also related to local support for the January Uprising. Końskowola is home to several valuable architectural monuments, including the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross and St. Andrew the Apostle, dating back to the 16th century, with unique works of art. It is also worth mentioning the former church cemetery and the Church of St. Anne from 1613. The settlement is a cultural center, with active artistic groups and annual festivals, such as the Festival of Roses. Modern Końskowola is developing as an educational center with the Henryk Sienkiewicz School Complex. Various sports clubs are located in the settlement, and residents actively participate in local community life. The settlement is also seeking to regain town status, which is supported by a significant part of the community. Interestingly, Końskowola was a center of resistance during World War II, and the local community was known for its involvement in the Peasant Battalions. Końskowola remains a place with strong traditions and culture, evolving towards modernity while preserving the memory of its rich history and cultural heritage.
