wikipedia
Koronowskie Lake is a picturesque retention reservoir located in the lower section of the Brda River, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, near the town of Koronowo. Its creation is linked to the concept of building a cascade on the Brda River, developed by Professor Karol Pomianowski in 1928. Construction of the dam at Pieczyska began in 1953 and was completed in 1960, which resulted in the flooding of surrounding villages, including Olszewka. The lake covers an area of 13.5 km², with a maximum depth of 21.2 m and a capacity of 77.5 million m³. The reservoir offers diverse recreational opportunities, making it an attractive area for tourists, with numerous holiday centers and hiking trails. The lake's water is particularly popular among water sports enthusiasts. Surrounding the reservoir are various holiday destinations, such as Pieczyska, Romanowo, and Samociążek. The lake is famous for organized kayaking trips and sailing regattas. In recent years, renovation and revitalization works have been carried out on the dam and beaches to improve safety and tourist conditions. Although the dam is secure, there are theoretical risks of a disaster caused by sabotage or natural disasters, which could threaten nearby towns. In an architectural context, the dam and hydroelectric power plant infrastructure form a significant part of the local landscape, and the history of the reservoir itself, its construction, and its impact on the region is a fascinating part of the cultural heritage of Kuyavia and Pomerania. Koronowskie Lake, considered one of the most attractive recreational areas, combines nature conservation with opportunities for active leisure, making it a popular destination for weekend getaways and holidays for residents of Bydgoszcz and the surrounding areas.
