Korycin is a rural commune located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Sokółka County, with its administrative seat in the settlement of the same name. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Białystok Voivodeship. According to data from the end of June 2004, Korycin had a population of 3,561, while by the end of 2019, the population had decreased to 3,202. The commune covers an area of 117.32 km², of which 85% is agricultural land and 8% is forested, making it an important agricultural area in the region, accounting for 5.71% of the total area of Sokółka County. Korycin is a place rich in history, as reflected in its preserved monuments. The commune is home to the Church of the Exaltation and Finding of the Holy Cross, built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, surrounded by a distinctive fence and chapels dating back to the second half of the 19th century. Behind the church, remnants of an 18th-century park can be found. In Brody, there are two brick chapels from the 19th century, and near the Kumiałka River, medieval strongholds from the 11th and 12th centuries can be seen, located in the villages of Aulakowszczyzna and Mielewszczyzna, testifying to early settlement. In Romaszkówka, there is also a brick water mill from the late 19th century. The commune of Korycin also features a monument commemorating its establishment, dated 1995, which highlights local traditions and identity. The local culture and traditions of the commune's residents are nurtured by numerous village administrations, such as those in Aulakowszczyzna, Białystoczek, Brody, and Korycin. The largest settlement without village status is Nowinka, showcasing the commune's diverse settlement structure. Korycin also boasts diverse natural assets that promote tourism and recreation, such as forested and agricultural areas, attracting nature enthusiasts. With its rich history, historic architecture, and local traditions, the commune of Korycin is an important point on the map of Podlasie, offering both residents and tourists a unique place to explore Poland's cultural heritage.
