wikipedia
Krynki is an urban-rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Sokółka County, with its capital in the town of Krynki. The history of Krynki dates back to the interwar period when the municipality of Brzostowica Wielka belonged to the Grodno County. In 1921, it was home to 4,110 people, mostly Poles, as well as Belarusians and Jews. In 1939, after the USSR's invasion of Poland, the municipality was incorporated into the Byelorussian SSR, and after World War II, it became part of the Grodno Region. The consequences of the war and administrative changes led to the division of the municipality and the loss of town rights by Krynki, which was transformed into a village cluster. In 1951, Krynki was formally abolished as a town, and its area was incorporated into the Krynki Municipality. Despite administrative reforms, the municipality was reactivated in 1973. Krynki regained its town status in 2009. The municipality covers an area of 165.91 km², mostly occupied by agricultural and forest land. Settlements within the municipality include, among others, Białogorce, Ciumicze, Kruszyniany, Łapicze, and Nietupa. The municipality borders Belarus, which adds to its unique character. Architecturally, Krynki boasts a rich history, traces of which can be seen in its buildings, and the local culture is cultivated by its residents, making Krynki an interesting place both historically and touristically. An interesting fact is that in 1921, the ethnic diversity of the inhabitants was pronounced, and the municipality underwent dynamic political changes over the years, which shaped its fate.
