wikipedia
Kurow is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Puławy County, with its administrative seat in the settlement of Kurów, which has a population of around 2,800. The municipality was established in 1809 and was initially part of the Lublin Department. In 1866, Kurów consisted of 13 village districts (gromady), and over the following years, it underwent numerous territorial transformations and redistributions. In 1870, Kurów lost its town rights as a consequence of its support for the January Uprising, which significantly impacted its development. Throughout the 20th century, the municipality underwent multiple reorganizations, and in 1972, it regained its status as a gmina, comprising 28 village councils (sołectwa). During the period of the Polish People's Republic, the municipality was subject to further administrative changes. Architecturally, Kurów does not feature prominent historical monuments, but its rural architecture reflects local traditions. An important cultural initiative in the municipality is the "Kurów" Agglomeration, established in 2006 to improve water and sewage infrastructure. The history of the municipality, with its numerous administrative changes, serves as an interesting example of the evolution of local self-government units. Another noteworthy fact is that in recent years, local initiatives aimed at developing the municipality have been organized, and the municipality itself covers 10.86% of the area of Puławy County. Efforts to improve the living conditions of residents and preserve local traditions are key aspects of the municipality's identity.
