wikipedia
Lachowo is a village located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Kolno County, with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Initially, it was a ducal settlement established in the territories belonging to Duke Janusz I the Elder. Destruction caused by invasions led to the depopulation of the region, but Janusz I, striving to develop these lands, introduced settlers by funding churches and granting privileges to new inhabitants. The first mention of Lachowo dates back to 1424, and the village developed over the centuries, undergoing various administrative changes, including serving as the seat of a municipality and a local administrative unit. Notable figures born in Lachowo include the botanist Helena Krzemieniewska and the volleyball player Maria Golimowska-Chylińska, an Olympic bronze medalist. The architecture of Lachowo is representative of the region, featuring a 19th-century parish church dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, distinguished by its wooden coffered ceiling and historic bell tower. There are also cemeteries and a manor complex with a park, which add cultural and historical value to the locality. The parish in Lachowo was established before 1429, and the current neo-Gothic church was built in 1878. An interesting fact is that the village originally covered a much larger area, which gradually diminished over time. The parish also includes surrounding localities, with approximately 2,747 faithful. Parish feasts are held on special days, such as the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Lachowo combines elements of rich history, local culture, and architecture, making it an interesting place from both a tourist and historical perspective.
