Legionów Park, formerly known as Władysław Hibner Park and ZUS Park, is located in the Górna district of Łódź. It covers an area of 9.72 hectares, divided into two parts separated by Bednarska Street. The park was named Legionów Park in 1994. The park features unique vegetation, including the largest magnolias in Łódź, female yew trees, as well as oak and beech trees that are designated as natural monuments.
The former Hibner Park is a place with a rich history, serving as a recreational space for residents since the beginning of the 20th century. Its first section was established in 1888 near a complex of wool product factories managed by Ernst Leonhardt. Initially, the park was closed to the public and contained ponds used for production purposes. In the 1950s, the park was opened to residents, leading to numerous renovation works, such as the removal of the former ponds and the addition of new pathways.
In the northern part of the park, which previously housed orchards and tennis courts, there are now recreational areas with playgrounds. In 2005, the Angelica Sports and Recreation Center was established, offering residents a modern sports complex.
ZUS Park, created between 1932 and 1934, was designed by architect Stefan Rogowicz for employees of the Social Insurance Institution. Its distinctive feature is the preserved architecture of the residential blocks. The park underwent modernization in the 1990s, and in 2017, a monument to a legionnaire was unveiled, highlighting the local history and traditions.
The park’s surroundings also include other significant points of interest, such as Piotrkowska Street and various green spaces, making it an important cultural and recreational area in Łódź.
