Lodz University of Technology Library

The Łódź University of Technology Library, established in 1945, is a key component of the university's library system, which also includes branch libraries in faculties and departmental libraries. Its headquarters, a modern building on Wólczańska Street, was originally built as a warehouse in 1912 and was one of the first structures in Europe to use reinforced concrete. After the war, having passed through the hands of various institutions, the building was purchased by the Łódź University of Technology in 1996 and transformed into a library, which was of great importance for the university's development. The library collects a wide range of scientific and technical literature, and its holdings at the end of 2022 included nearly 250,000 books and 132,000 journals. Particularly interesting are its electronic resources, which include over 500,000 e-books and 56,000 e-journals. Additionally, the library maintains digital repositories such as CYBERNA, which promote open access to research results. In the cultural sphere, the library engages in artistic activities through the Biblio-Art Gallery and the Literary Vestibule, where meetings with writers are held. Architecturally, the new building, converted from a former factory, is a distinctive feature on the university campus, and its history connected with Łódź industrialists highlights the region's importance in both industrial and educational contexts. An interesting fact is that the first director of the library was Dr. Stanisław Peliński, and since 2023, the position has been held by Dr. Eng. Adam Lenic. The library not only preserves and enriches scientific collections but also serves as a center of cultural life in Łódź, bringing together the academic community and local artists.
