wikipedia
Łomnica-Zdrój is a village with a rich history dating back to royal times. Mentions of Łomnica appeared in parchment documents, indicating that the settlement was established earlier than Piwniczna-Zdrój. Stara Łomnica was founded on the initiative of King Casimir the Great, and Nowa Łomnica was established in 1570. In the 18th century, the village became part of Austria and for centuries was under the administration of the starosts of Nowy Sącz. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the inhabitants were engaged in sheep and goat herding, which contributed to local prosperity. Łomnica was also the site of battles in 1410 between Polish knights and the troops of Sigismund of Luxembourg. Since the beginning of the 20th century, a health resort has been developing there, with the first use of mineral water sources taking place in 1910. During World War II, the village experienced difficult times, commemorated by a monument honoring soldiers and residents. Architecturally, Łomnica features buildings characteristic of the region, and the village has served tourist functions for years, with views of the Beskid Sądecki Mountains and the Tatra Mountains. The contemporary development of the village focuses on tourism, with appropriate accommodation facilities and hiking trails. The local culture is distinguished by the Łomnica dialect and culinary traditions related to Łomnica pierogi. Additionally, the village is home to the highlander band *Piyrogi Łomnicońskie*, which nurtures local folklore. In 1989, a new school with a middle school section was inaugurated in response to the growing number of students. Furthermore, Łomnica-Zdrój has a Volunteer Fire Department established in 1928, equipped with modern gear. An interesting fact is the vast number of mineral springs, making the village an attraction for tourists seeking spa waters. It is also worth noting that Łomnica-Zdrój is located within the Poprad Landscape Park, highlighting its natural and landscape values, which attract tourists year-round.
