Koleje Dolnośląskie (KD) is a Polish railway operator, established on December 28, 2007, by the local government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The company launched regular services on December 14, 2008, primarily operating routes within the Lower Silesian region and international connections under agreements with the Marshal's Office. KD focuses exclusively on passenger transport, serving dozens of lines, including the popular route from Wrocław to Legnica. In 2018, the carrier significantly expanded its market presence, achieving a 3.78% share of passenger traffic in Poland, which placed it seventh nationally. Koleje Dolnośląskie has earned recognition by receiving prestigious awards, such as the "Quality of the Year 2010" title and being listed among "Socially Responsible Railway Companies" in 2017. In recent years, the company has experienced dynamic growth, carrying 19 million passengers in 2023—a record in its 15-year history. KD also promotes various passenger-oriented services, such as an information system and discounted tickets. The restoration of forgotten connections and support for tourism, such as seasonal trains to attractive destinations like Kudowa-Zdrój, along with cooperation with other international carriers, highlight their commitment to regional collaboration and local culture and transport. Interestingly, KD was the first local government railway operator in Poland not affiliated with PKP, symbolizing a modern approach to regional rail transport.
