Lublin Cultural Center

The Lublin Culture Centre, located in a late Baroque former convent complex of the Visitation Sisters at 12 Peowiaków Street, is one of the largest municipal cultural and educational institutions in the city. It plays a key role in Lublin's cultural life by organizing leading festivals such as "Konfrontacje Teatralne" (Theatre Confrontations), the International Dance Theatre Meetings, and the Lublin Jazz Festival, as well as a wide range of artistic events, concerts, theatre performances, and educational workshops. The institution's activities are rooted in the artistic heritage of the region and engage local communities, fostering integration among diverse social groups. The building housing the Centre has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it was originally constructed as a brick convent. After undergoing numerous changes in purpose and adaptations—including conversion into an Orthodox church and military use—the facility was repurposed for cultural needs after World War II. In 2009, a major renovation began with the goal of transforming the historic space into a modern cultural centre. During the works, many valuable architectural details, paintings, and significant artifacts such as a centuries-old foundation act were discovered. The Lublin Culture Centre combines essential elements of education, visual arts, theatre, music, and dance. The Biała Gallery, part of the institution, has been presenting contemporary art since 1985, hosting numerous exhibitions by local and international artists. The Centre also offers educational programs for children, seniors, and socially excluded groups, highlighting its social responsibility. An interesting fact is that the Culture Centre actively participated in aiding refugees from Ukraine during the full-scale Russian invasion, becoming the headquarters of a local aid committee. Additionally, it publishes the Lublin Cultural Guide "ZOOM," which provides residents with information about cultural events in the region. The Centre's activities focus on developing local culture through festivals and events that attract renowned artists from Poland and abroad, making Lublin an important point on Poland's cultural map.
