Lublin Główny im. Lubelskiego Lipca 1980 is the most important railway station in Lublin, classified in the Premium category according to PKP's classification. Built in 1877 as part of the Vistula Railway, it serves as a key transportation hub, connecting Lublin with numerous destinations, including Warsaw and Terespol. The station is located on the border of the Za Cukrownią and Dziesiąta districts, with city bus stops and a taxi stand situated in front of the building. In the immediate vicinity of the station, one can also find the PKS Południowy Bus Station. The history of Lublin as a railway station dates back to the 19th century, when, after lengthy disputes, its location was decided. The station building, designed by Witold Lanci, has undergone numerous renovations, and its architecture reflects an eclectic style. In the 20th century, modernizations took place in 1924–1925, 1967, and 1984–1986, and in 1974 the building was entered into the register of historical monuments. Lublin Główny played a role in significant historical events, such as the Lublin July 1980 protests, commemorated by the "Cross of Railway Workers' Suffering" near the locomotive depot. In the 21st century, the station underwent significant modernization, and its new name "Lublin Główny" along with the dedication to the Lublin July 1980 events hold symbolic meaning. The station operates multiple railway services, including Przewozy Regionalne and PKP Intercity, ensuring smooth passenger traffic. The station building, after renovation, offers a range of amenities, including food outlets and ticket counters, and the surrounding area is currently under construction for the Integrated Metropolitan Station, enhancing its appeal as a transportation hub. The station has five platforms, while freight traffic is mainly handled by the Lublin Tatary station. The station also features historic locomotives and commemorative plaques that pay tribute to railway workers and their contribution to the region's history. Lublin Główny is not only a place associated with railway transport but also an important point in the city's history and culture, bridging the past with modernity.
