wikipedia
The Maciej Shaft Complex is a historic group of buildings constructed in the first half of the 20th century, associated with the operations of the Concordia Coal Mine in Zabrze-Maciejów. It comprises significant architectural structures that reflect the industrial development of the region. Key elements of the complex include the headframe building with its winding tower, the engine house with its original equipment, the weighhouse (now used as a gatehouse), and other structures such as the de-ironing facility, former forge, chemical storage building, ventilator house (currently serving as a workshop and storage space), and the 6kV switchgear room. The spoil heap, which forms part of the complex, was built up between 1915 and 1970. Culturally, the complex is an important part of technical heritage, with a rich history tied to Silesian mining, which played a crucial role in the industrial development of this part of Poland. A notable feature is the double-drum winding machine manufactured by Siemens-Schuckertwerke, which remains one of the site's main attractions. Today, the Maciej Shaft Complex is part of the Silesian Voivodeship's Trail of Technical Monuments, allowing visitors to explore and engage with the region's industrial legacy. Listed in the register of immovable monuments, the site is not only a tourist attraction but also a symbol of mining history and its profound impact on the social and economic development of Zabrze.
