Michałów, known until 1929 as the Chudowola Commune, is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, in the Lubartów County. The administrative seat of the commune is the village of Michałów. The commune covers an area of 135.93 km², of which 73% is agricultural land and 18% is forest land, making it an important agricultural area. In 2004, the commune was inhabited by 6,413 people, while in 2017 the population decreased to 5,951 residents. Michałów is home to the over 200-year-old Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a significant architectural landmark and an important part of the local cultural heritage. The commune consists of numerous village administrative units (sołectwa), including Aleksandrówka, Elżbietów, and Rudno, as well as non-administrative villages such as Kolonia Giżyce and Wólka Michowska. Michałów borders communes such as Abramów, Baranów, and Firlej, which influences socio-cultural interactions in the region. The commune stands out not only for its rich demographic structure but also for its significance in the history of the local community, where agricultural and cultural traditions are deeply rooted.
