Michał Doliwo-Dobrowolski's bench

The bench of Michał Doliwo-Dobrowolski in Szczecin is a monument unveiled on June 10, 2022, in a square named after this outstanding inventor. The commemoration of Doliwo-Dobrowolski, considered a pioneer in the field of electrical power engineering, began in 1999 when electricians from Szczecin initiated a proposal to honor him. In 2001, the square was named after Doliwo-Dobrowolski, and a commemorative boulder was unveiled on its grounds. After more than 20 years, with the support of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers and the Polish Section of IEEE, a decision was made to erect a new monument to mark the 160th anniversary of the inventor's birth. The monument, which weighs approximately 400 kg and depicts Doliwo-Dobrowolski at a 1:1 scale, was designed by Professor Marian Molenda and constructed by the company Art Odlew. It portrays Doliwo-Dobrowolski in a moment of rest, sitting on a bench with a cowboy hat in his left hand and a sheet of patents in his right, gazing toward the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the West Pomeranian University of Technology. The unveiling ceremony featured speeches by prominent representatives of the academic and engineering communities and was accompanied by a brass band. An interesting aspect is that this is the world's first monument dedicated to this inventor, highlighting the stature and significance of Michał Doliwo-Dobrowolski in the history of electrical power engineering and the broader field of engineering. The backrest of the bench features the logos of sponsors, demonstrating the local community's involvement in commemorating one of its most distinguished citizens.
