wikipedia
Mikołajowice is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in Tarnów County, within the administrative district of Wierzchosławice. It lies in the Sandomierz Basin, near the threshold of the Carpathian Foothills, and its history dates back to the end of the 12th century when it was owned by the Gryfit family. Mikołajowice is the result of the merger of two once separate settlements: Mikołajowice and Sierachowice. The first document confirming their existence comes from 1329. The village has a rich historical and cultural background – among its residents were notable figures such as Seweryn Goszczyński, Józef Przerwa-Tetmajer, and Jan Jarosz, making it an important site in Polish literature and independence movements. Mikołajowice also witnessed many events related to the partitions of Poland, wars, and the development of the local community. In the 18th century, due to the regulation of the Dunajec River, the village declined in importance, leading to its incorporation into magnate estates. After World War I, the village flourished thanks to the social engagement of its citizens, with various cultural and sports organizations emerging. After World War II, Mikołajowice underwent modernization, including electrification, gasification, and infrastructure development. In 1961, a church was built in the village, which had previously been housed in a stable, showcasing the adaptation of a historical building. The church in Mikołajowice, with relics of St. Simon, became an important place for the local community. Despite its gradual development, Mikołajowice retains a rural charm, being a typical suburban settlement where history intertwines with modernity.
