The outdoor sculpture "Górnicy" (Miners) by Marian Wnuk, created in 1964, is located on General Jerzy Ziętek Promenade in Silesian Park in Chorzów. The work was created as part of the arrangement of the Provincial Park of Culture and Recreation, which is now known as Silesian Park. Wnuk made the sculpture from artificial stone, enriched with iron filings and a metal structure. As a representative of socialist realism, "Górnicy" depicts two marching miners wearing helmets and holding lamps, reflecting the industrial character of the region and paying homage to the hard work of miners. Originally, the sculpture was located near the Silesian Stadium, where a red sandstone pedestal bore an inscription with the artist's name and the date of the work's creation. In 2011, "Górnicy" was entered into the register of movable monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship, highlighting its cultural significance. Unfortunately, over time, the sculpture and its pedestal deteriorated due to weather conditions. In 2021, restoration work was carried out by Okoń Leonarda Studio Artystyczno-Konserwatorskie from Bydgoszcz, at a cost of PLN 98,400. After renovation, "Górnicy" was moved to a new location, near the "Elka" cable railway station on Złota Street in Katowice, marking a new chapter in its presence in the public space. The sculpture, measuring 300 x 100 x 145 cm, is an important element of Silesia's cultural heritage, emphasizing the significance of miners in the region's history and their impact on industrial development.
